### How to Select a WiFi Network Using Power Shell

tutorials

PowerShell provides a powerful way to manage WiFi connections on Windows systems. Whether you need to connect to a new network or switch between available networks, PowerShell can help automate these tasks efficiently. This article explains how to select and connect to a WiFi network using PowerShell.

**Listing Available WiFi Networks**

Before connecting to a WiFi network, you need to list the available networks. PowerShell can be used to scan and display all nearby WiFi networks. Although PowerShell itself does not directly provide a cmdlet for this, you can use the \`netsh\` command within PowerShell to achieve this:

> netsh wlan show networks

This command will display all available WiFi networks along with their SSIDs and other details\[\[5\]\].

**Connecting to a WiFi Network**

Once you have identified the network you want to connect to, you can use PowerShell to connect to it. If you know the SSID and password of the network, you can create a new WiFi profile and connect to it using the following steps:

> \# Create a new WiFi profile XML file $profileXml = @" YourSSID YourSSID ESS auto WPA2PSK AES false passPhrase false YourPassword "@ # Save the profile to a file $profileXml | Out-File -FilePath "C:\\path\\to\\profile.xml" -Encoding ASCII # Add the profile to the system netsh wlan add profile filename="C:\\path\\to\\profile.xml" # Connect to the network netsh wlan connect name="YourSSID"

Replace `YourSSID` and `YourPassword` with the actual SSID and password of the WiFi network you wish to connect to. This script creates a WiFi profile and connects to the specified network\[\[3\]\].

**Conclusion**

Using PowerShell to manage WiFi connections can streamline network management tasks, especially in automated environments. By leveraging PowerShell scripts, you can efficiently list available networks and connect to them, enhancing your control over network configurations.
